Richard Zednik Taken To Hospital, Throat Cut By Skate.

Zednik was taken to hospital today, after his teammate’s skate cut his throat. The incident happened today in Buffalo when Olli Jokinen was attempting to check a Buffalo Sabre when he was thrown off-balance, and as a result his skate came up high, and cut Richard Zednik’s throat.

Zednik immediately skated to the bench where he was helped out by team doctors and taken to hospital. A hush fell over the crowd in attendance at that the game, and it continued through-out the game until it was announced that Zednik was in stable condition at the hospital.

Here is a link to the TSN package highlighting the Zednik incident.

**UPDATE**

Here is a video of the incident

Although it is odd that this sort of accident hasn’t happened more often in the NHL and hockey in general, there was another in incident March 22, 1989, again in Buffalo. Clint Malarchuk, a goalie with the Buffalo Sabres had his juggular slit after a collision near the net.

**UPDATE**

I did have the Malarchuk video, but I removed it, figuring there was already too much goriness for one day. If you really want to see it, there are quite a few different videos on YouTube.

My thoughts are with Zednik, and I would imagine the thoughts of hockey fans around the world. Hoping that we will someday see Richard Zednik on the ice again.
