Rick DiPietro has learned that his season is over, after undergoing and MRI on Tuesday. DiPietro has a right hip problem, and it is going to need surgery to be fixed and hopefully get him back to normal.
I think the Islanders are going to play this as safe as possible. They know that they are out of the playoff run, and DiPietro has 15 years to go on his monsterous contract. If something were to happen to Dipietro, the Islanders would be completely screwed as Doobie would not be capable to handle the load, he is not a number one goalie.
I am sure Garth Snow would be able to find another goalie to throw in net to partially solve the problem… maybe he even comes out of retirement and becomes GM/player. Now that would be unreal, not going to happen but it would be fun to see.
Hopefully for the Islanders they don’t have to go down this road, and Dipietro’s surgery will go well, and he’ll be back for training camp.
